বাংলাদেশ–যুক্তরাষ্ট্র বাণিজ্যে বড় অগ্রগতি | ART Agreement Boosts Exports
বাংলাদেশ ও যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মধ্যে স্বাক্ষরিত হলো ‘Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART)’—একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বাণিজ্য চুক্তি, যা বাংলাদেশের তৈরি পোশাক শিল্পে নতুন সম্ভাবনার দুয়ার খুলে দিল।
এই চুক্তির আওতায় যুক্তরাষ্ট্র থেকে আমদানি করা তুলা ও কৃত্রিম তন্তু দিয়ে তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিতে রেসিপ্রোকাল ট্যারিফ (পাল্টা শুল্ক) সম্পূর্ণ শূন্য করা হয়েছে। পাশাপাশি বাংলাদেশের ওপর আরোপিত চূড়ান্ত পাল্টা শুল্কের হার ১ শতাংশ কমিয়ে ১৯ শতাংশে নামিয়ে আনা হয়েছে।
বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রণালয়ের তথ্যমতে, সোমবার (৯ ফেব্রুয়ারি) ঢাকার বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রণালয়ের সভাকক্ষ থেকে ভার্চুয়াল মাধ্যমে এই চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে চুক্তিতে স্বাক্ষর করেন বাণিজ্য উপদেষ্টা শেখ বশিরউদ্দীন এবং যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের পক্ষে স্বাক্ষর করেন মার্কিন বাণিজ্য প্রতিনিধি জেমিসন গ্রিয়ার।
চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর অনুষ্ঠানে ভার্চুয়ালি উপস্থিত ছিলেন জাতীয় নিরাপত্তা উপদেষ্টা ড. খলিলুর রহমান, প্রধান উপদেষ্টার আন্তর্জাতিক বিষয়ক বিশেষ সহকারী লুৎফে সিদ্দিকী, বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রণালয়ের সচিব মাহবুবুর রহমান এবং সহকারী মার্কিন বাণিজ্য প্রতিনিধি ব্রেন্ডান লিঞ্চ।
বিশ্লেষকদের মতে, এই চুক্তির ফলে বাংলাদেশের পোশাক রপ্তানি আরও প্রতিযোগিতামূলক হবে, উৎপাদন ব্যয় কমবে এবং যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাজারে বাংলাদেশের অবস্থান আরও শক্তিশালী হবে।
Bangladesh and the United States have signed the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART), marking a significant milestone in bilateral trade relations and providing a major boost to Bangladesh’s apparel export sector.
Under the agreement, reciprocal tariffs on garment exports made from US-imported cotton and synthetic fibers have been completely eliminated. In addition, the final reciprocal tariff imposed on Bangladesh has been reduced by 1 percent to 19 percent, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The agreement was signed virtually on Monday (February 9) from the Ministry of Commerce in Dhaka.
Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin signed the deal on behalf of Bangladesh, while US Trade Representative Jamison Greer represented the United States.
The virtual signing ceremony was attended by National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqi, Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, and Assistant US Trade Representative Brendan Lynch.
Experts believe the ART agreement will enhance Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the US market, reduce export costs, and strengthen long-term trade cooperation between the two countries.
